Starting the 3240 Journey

IT BEGINS!!! Or rather I suppose it resumes! After a crazy and hectic summer with work and personal life on overload, I am continuing with my studies in the PID programme, with this course being my fifth.

For the 3240 class, I am excited for a number of reasons, mostly I will be able to learn about new technology that I have before now been either too afraid to attempt trying, or simply did not know existed. Having read chapters 1 - 3 in Teaching Naked, I have discovered websites that already entice me and about which I have shared with my students as I know they too will find them useful in their own careers and studies. I have passed on information about the Khan Institute to my daughter who recently started studying at Kwantlen, and she too has already watched a few of the videos, which have helped her to better understand her Biology course. So, as you can see, the benefits of a class like this reach further than any one of us taking it.

I am sure that, as it is with all the PIDP courses, these next two months will be filled with a lot of learning, a lot of stressing, but also a lot of self-satisfaction as we realize we are much more computer and tech savvy than we thought!

I too am excited for the variety of web sites that I had never heard of and am looking forward to the challenge of mastering some of them. My daughter is at SFU and already knew about the Khan Academy, she frequents it and others to aid in her understanding of courses she takes at SFU

I fell into teaching over 22 years ago and haven't looked back. Although I had never planned on getting into this profession, I discovered that I loved it and have never felt that I was teaching. Opening the world of possibilities to my students, and giving them support to be able to reach out far to achieve their goals, is where my passion in teaching lies.
